MTU Maintenance, a German-based company specializing in aircraft engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), has taken a bold step to grow its North American operations with a new 30-year lease agreement with the City of Fort Worth, marking a transformative expansion at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport. With an investment of $120 million, MTU will modernize and expand its existing 43,000-square-meter facility soon to be renamed “MTU Maintenance Fort Worth.”

This long-term commitment aligns with MTU’s 2050 strategy and significantly elevates the company’s footprint in the United States. Building on the company’s partnerships with CFM International and GE Aerospace, MTU will add CFM LEAP and GEnx engine types to its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities. The Fort Worth facility’s advanced engine repair capabilities will position the region at the forefront of aviation maintenance by integrating the latest engine technologies, helping to secure its long-term competitiveness and adaptability through the next generation of aviation technology. The Fort Worth site will evolve from a quick-turn service center into a full disassembly, assembly, and testing hub, making it one of the largest engine maintenance facilities in North America.

The economic impact is equally substantial. MTU’s expansion is expected to add 1,200 new highly skilled jobs to the Fort Worth area, with an additional 2,000 indirect jobs in logistics, infrastructure, and support services. The new facility will also foster collaboration with local universities to train the next generation of aviation professionals.

“We have a clear business strategy for regional collaboration, are committed to job creation, and both excited and prepared for significant growth,” said Gernot Sell, Managing Director, MTU Maintenance Fort Worth.

Why It Matters to Fort Worth Economic Development

MTU’s expansion strengthens Fort Worth’s position as a leading hub for the aviation and aerospace industry and the city’s ability to support the growth of existing companies while attracting global investment. Fort Worth was recently named the Aviation and Defense Capital of Texas, a title further validated by this major investment and the city’s growing concentration of aerospace companies.

A strong aviation cluster fuels innovation, deepens the local talent pool, and creates high-quality jobs that benefit the greater Fort Worth region. Cities that foster long-term business growth build more resilient economies, and MTU’s continued commitment underscores Fort Worth’s appeal as a business-friendly environment where industry leaders invest, expand, and contribute to sustained community prosperity.
